Lafayette, LA's Jessie Fletcher, won the 80-pound, 10-11-year-old age group at the Title National Championship Tournament in Ripley, TN on June 5. A decorated amateur boxer, Fletcher defeated Memphian Eugene Collins by RSC in the second round. Fletcher only started boxing in January of 2009, but has won four championships in his age group. At 5-foot-3, Kansas City, MO light middleweight Melisenda Perez is used to having to fight much taller opponents. Despite the height disadvantage, Perez has managed to be a force in her division. From Staff Reports FT. LAUDERDALE - Two North Carolina boxers lost to Cuba ex-patriots on the Friday (Feb. 5) card from Nova Southeastern University's Don Taft University Center. Winston-Salem, NC heavyweight Corey Winfield came out on the short end of a split decision in a 4-rounder against Glenda Hernandez, who was making his professional debut. The 26-year-old Winfield fell to 3-5. 2 KOs. In a cruiserweight bout that was scheduled for four rounds, Pine Level, NC's Gary Lavender (8-14, 7 KOs) was TKO'd at 1:41 of the opening round by Yunier Dorticus, who moved to 3-0, 3 KOs. On the same card, former light heavyweight world champion, Miami's, Glen Johnson, TKO'd Yusaf Mack in the sixth round of an IBF Light Heavyweight title eliminator. In the light middleweight main event, Hollywood, FL's Ed Paredes knocked out Miami's Joey Hernandez at 1:53 of the first round. The fight was scheduled for 10.
