Lafayette, LA's Jessie Fletcher, won the 80-pound, 10-11-year-old age group at the Title National Championship Tournament in Ripley, TN on June 5. A decorated amateur boxer, Fletcher defeated Memphian Eugene Collins by RSC in the second round. Fletcher only started boxing in January of 2009, but has won four championships in his age group. From TKO Boxing Promotions HOUSTON, TX - World-ranked flyweight, Augusta, GA's Rayonta "Stingray" Whitfield has been in training at the Houston's Savannah Boxing Club under the guidance of world renowned trainer Ronnie Shields in preparation for his NABO championship title defense Saturday (Feb. 27) against Sergio Espinoza. Their 12-round headline bout, part of an action-packed evening of world-class professional boxing, is set for the Bell Auditorium in Augusta, GA, and is presented by TKO Boxing Promotions. "Camp in Houston has been perfect. We're putting in the hard work that will pay off on Feb. 27," the 28-year-old Whitfield said. With a record of 23-1, 11 KOs, Whifield will be fighting in front of a "loud and proud" packed house at the Bell Auditorium for the fourth time in his career. He is currently ranked No. 4 in the world by the IBF and No. 5 by the WBO.
The 31-year-old Espinoza brings a record of 16-6-1, 5 KOs into the title bout. "I've watched tapes of Espinoza and he's a very aggressive fighter, always coming forward. I'll have to use my counter-punching abilities, but it should make for an all-action fight for the fans," Whitfield said.
