Lafayette, LA welterweight Brad Solomon (12-0, 4 KOs) fights for his first major championships Tuesday (Aug. 24) when he meets Puerto Rico's Wilfredo Negron (26-14-1, 19 KOs) at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, FL, just up the road from Miami. The bout is for the vacant WBA International and vacant WBC Latino belts. In his last bout in June, Solomon decisioned previously unbeaten Kenny Galarza over 10.

Amatuer Boxing
Lafayette, LA's Jessie Fletcher, won the 80-pound, 10-11-year-old age group at the Title National Championship Tournament in Ripley, TN on June 5. A decorated amateur boxer, Fletcher defeated Memphian Eugene Collins by RSC in the second round. Fletcher only started boxing in January of 2009, but has won four championships in his age group. At 5-foot-3, Kansas City, MO light middleweight Melisenda Perez is used to having to fight much taller opponents. Despite the height disadvantage, Perez has managed to be a force in her division. Roundup: Edwards Drops Bid For NABO Championship PDF Print E-mail

In a battle of undefeated super middleweights Friday night (April 30), Houston's Marcus "Too Much" Johnson was just that for Winston-Salem, NC's Derek "The Black Lion" Edwards.

Fighting in the 10-round main event at the UIC Pavilion and televised by Showtime, Johnson won a unanimous decision by a comfortable margin. Johnson (19-0, 14 KOs) defeated Edwards (25-1, 13 KOs) by scores of 97-92 and 98-92 X 2. With the victory, Johnson picked up the vacant WBO NABO Super Middleweight championship.

Also Friday night, a 6-rounder at the Tropicana Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Tuscaloosa, AL heavyweight and Olympic Bronze Medalist Deontay Wilder recorded his 10th knockout in as many fights when he TKO'd Mexico's Alvaro Morales at 1:23 of the third round.

Morales dropped to 4-8-5. Morales has lost five of his last six fights.

And at the Miccosukee Indian Gaming Resort in Miami, noted Savannah, TN tough guy, super middleweight Jessie Davis, was TKO'd at 1:10 of the fourth round by Miami resident Michael Oliveira.

A punch from Oliviera (12-0, 9 KOs) opened a cut on the left eye of Davis (11-18, 8 KOs). The bout was scheduled for six.
