Lafayette, LA's Jessie Fletcher, won the 80-pound, 10-11-year-old age group at the Title National Championship Tournament in Ripley, TN on June 5. A decorated amateur boxer, Fletcher defeated Memphian Eugene Collins by RSC in the second round. Fletcher only started boxing in January of 2009, but has won four championships in his age group. At 5-foot-3, Kansas City, MO light middleweight Melisenda Perez is used to having to fight much taller opponents. Despite the height disadvantage, Perez has managed to be a force in her division. Perez won a 4-round unanimous decision over Batesville, AR's April Ward Saturday night (July 10) on Les Bonano's "Battle On The Bay" card at Hollywood Casino. Read more...

Ragin' Cajun Boxers Win Team Trophy At Kenner, LA |

From Ragin' Cajun Boxing Club KENNER, LA - Lafayette, LA's Ragin' Cajun Boxing Club won five of its seven bouts Saturday (March 6) in the Kenner Boxing Club amateur show and took home the team trophy. Bout winners included 11-year-old Dylan Landry (75 pounds), 14-year-old Hunter Marvin (118 pounds), Shay Lambright (193 pounds), 14-year-old Cade Duckworth (118 pounds) and Wilfred Fuselier (201 pounds). Eric Bui (100 pounds) and Hunter Broussard (127 pounds) lost decisions. Fuselier fought New Orleans' Dominick Valera and their bout was selected the Fight of the Night. The heavier Valera tried to out-muscle Fuseler and rough him up on the inside. However, Fuselier pounded Valera's body on the inside and used his jab and hard right hand to keep Valera where he wanted him. Fuselier won by unanimous decision.
Landry, a sixth-grader at Prairie Elementary School, won a decision over Hector Edmond, who represented Breaux Brothers Creole Boxing, of Lafayette. Marvin, a 14-year-old high school freshman, dazzled the sold-out crowd with his speed, power and technique in defeat of Rudy Garcia, of Gulfport, MS. Lambright won by out-boxing Kyle Smith. Duckworth, a 14-year-old student in the gifted program at Lafayette High School, easily defeated Sorrento's J.W. McCoy. Bui, a 12-year-old student at Scott Middle School, lost to Sorrento's Shane Sellers. Broussard lost to Gary Riley, of Baton Rouge. Broussard was floored twice in the first round by a straight left hand from the southpaw. The Ragin' Cajun boxers travel to Houma on March 13 for a show in preparation for the Louisiana State Golden Gloves, scheduled for March 26-28 at the new M.P. Moss Middle School in Lafayette. |
