Lafayette, LA welterweight Brad Solomon (12-0, 4 KOs) fights for his first major championships Tuesday (Aug. 24) when he meets Puerto Rico's Wilfredo Negron (26-14-1, 19 KOs) at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, FL, just up the road from Miami. The bout is for the vacant WBA International and vacant WBC Latino belts. In his last bout in June, Solomon decisioned previously unbeaten Kenny Galarza over 10.

Lafayette, LA's Jessie Fletcher, won the 80-pound, 10-11-year-old age group at the Title National Championship Tournament in Ripley, TN on June 5. A decorated amateur boxer, Fletcher defeated Memphian Eugene Collins by RSC in the second round. Fletcher only started boxing in January of 2009, but has won four championships in his age group. At 5-foot-3, Kansas City, MO light middleweight Melisenda Perez is used to having to fight much taller opponents. Despite the height disadvantage, Perez has managed to be a force in her division. Junot, Ward Come Up With Victories On Separate Cards |

Out of five Deep South women's boxers who who were in action on Saturday (July 11). only New Orleans light welterweight Tiffany Junot and Batesville, AR middleweight April Ward wound up victorious.
Fighting at the San Miguel Arena in Houston, Junot wasted little time in disposing of Pine Bluff, AR's Nikita McCargo. Junot (6-2, 4 KOs) took out McCargo (0-3) at 39 seconds of the opening round in a bout scheduled for four rounds.
On the same Calm Before the Storm Promotion card, Houston super bantamweight Johanna Mendez won by third-round TKO over her Columbus, MS opponent Geboria Mayfield. Mendez (6-0-1, 2 KOs) stopped Mayfield (2-4, 1 KO) at 1:54 of the round. The fight was scheduled for four rounds.
Also, Houston super middleweight Vashon Living won by TKO in the second round over Nashville's April Richards. The time of the TKO stoppage came at 1:44. That bout was also scheduled for four rounds. Richards dropped to 0-3, while Living moved to 1-1, 1 KO.
At the Fort Smith (AR) Arena, on a pro boxing/MMA card promoted by Luckier Promotions, Batesville, AR middleweight April Ward improved to 2-0, 2 KOs as she won by TKO in the second round over Kim Wann, who was making her pro debut. The bout was scheduled for four rounds.
