Lafayette, LA welterweight Brad Solomon (12-0, 4 KOs) fights for his first major championships Tuesday (Aug. 24) when he meets Puerto Rico's Wilfredo Negron (26-14-1, 19 KOs) at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, FL, just up the road from Miami. The bout is for the vacant WBA International and vacant WBC Latino belts. In his last bout in June, Solomon decisioned previously unbeaten Kenny Galarza over 10.

Lafayette, LA's Jessie Fletcher, won the 80-pound, 10-11-year-old age group at the Title National Championship Tournament in Ripley, TN on June 5. A decorated amateur boxer, Fletcher defeated Memphian Eugene Collins by RSC in the second round. Fletcher only started boxing in January of 2009, but has won four championships in his age group. At 5-foot-3, Kansas City, MO light middleweight Melisenda Perez is used to having to fight much taller opponents. Despite the height disadvantage, Perez has managed to be a force in her division. In First Trip To Mississippi, Hunter Earns TKO Victory PDF Print E-mail

GREENVILLE, MS - Philadelphia featherweight Eric "The Outlaw" Hunter made the most of his first trip to Mississippi.

Fighting in the scheduled 8-round main event at Harlow's Casino on the Friday, April 30 card, Hunter stopped Atlanta's Jose Hernandez at 2:59 of the third round.

The TKO victory was the eighth straight for the 23-year-old Hunter since his 6-round split decision loss to Ecuador's Carlos Vinan in 2007 in Philadelphia.

In losing his second straight by stoppage, Hernandez dropped to 11-8-1, 5 KOs.

In the scheduled 6-round round co-feature, Batesville, AR female light middleweight April Ward made short work of Arkansas native Brittany Glendenning. Ward (6-1, 6 KOs) stopped Glendenning (2-1, 1 KO) at 49 seconds of the second round.

In 4-round bouts:

Atlanta's Donta Woods (6-0, 5 KOs) won a unanimous decision over Sardis, MS veteran William "Pete" Johnson  (9-21-1, 3 KOs, light heavyweights;

Taureano Johnson, a 2008 Olympian from the Bahamas (3-0, 3 KOs), stopped 37-year-old Jackson, TN' vet Anthony Bowman (9-28-2, 2 KO) at 1:06 of the fourth round, light middleweights;

Batesville, AR's Mike Wagenblast (3-1, 1 KO) won a unanimous decision over Memphis resident Dedrick Bell (1-2, 1 KO); welterweights;

Georgia's Rohan Wilson (4-2-1, 1 KO) won a unanimous decision over New Mexico's Keuntray Henson (1-1), welterweights.
