BAY ST. LOUIS, MS - The main event and undercard bouts are set for the Saturday (April 24) card from Hollywood Casino Bay St. Louis. The five power-packed bouts begins at 8 p.m.
The card's main event is a 10-round heavyweight bout between rising star "Big" Fred Kassi (14-1, 7 KOs), of New Orleans, and Fort Worth. TX veteran Kendrick Releford (21-13-2, 10 KOs).
"Releford will be the best fighter that Kassi has ever fought in his professional career," said promoter Les Bonano.
Releford has won six of his last seven fights. His losses came while fighting in Germany, Canada, the United Kingdom and throughout the United States. He has never been knocked out and owns a 12-round decision victory over highly-ratherElieser Castillo, in a bout for the WBO Latino Heavyweight title. Another major victory was against highly regarded Cuban Ramon Garbey.
Kassi won his last fight at Hollywood against Tampa's Moises Droz (13-10) by knockout in the third round. He has won three straight fights since his lone loss.
The 6-round co-feature to the main event pits two of the top cruiserweights in the region when Tuscaloosa, AL's Anthony Doughty (7-1, 6 KOs) battles it out with Houma, LA's Justin "Ironman" Verdin (9-0, 6 KOs).
Saturday's first two matches start off with two newly tested fighters in the lightweight and welterweight divisions respectively. meeting fighters who are making their professional debut. These two 4-rounders will be followed by
another 4-rounder in the middleweight division.
In the first middleweight bout on the card, New Orleans' Jamond Bourgeois makes his pro debut against Mobile, AL's Josh Thorpe (1-0).
Pensacola, FL lightweight David Hill (0-1) returns to meet Mobile's Aubrey Norris, who is making his pro debut.
New Orleans middleweight Marcus McDaniel (2-0) and Columbus' Billy Cunningham (3-4, 3 KOs) get it on. McDaniel is a fast-handed fighter who who won a tough 4-round battle in here in January over Columbus'Cleoney Fuqua. It was the first and only loss for Fuqua.
