From Staff Reports

KANSAS CITY, MO - One week after winning the National Junior Golden Gloves tournament at Mesquite, NV, Lafayette, LA 11-year-old Jody "Soldier Ant" Gauthier simply followed up that championship by going out and winning another big tournament.

Competing in the 60-pound division, Gauthier won the Ringside World Championship on Aug. 8. Gauthier won a unanimous decision over Aldan Campos, of Edinburg, TX. It was the fourth national title for Gauthier in as many weeks.

Gauthier said the reason for his success was simple.

""Well, I just trained harder,"" Gauthier said. "My jab kept him off me. He was fast, so I just used my jab. My body shots and left hook to the head were what I was successful with."

"I had him double up on the jab in the second and third rounds," Jody Gauthier Sr. said. "We kept the same gameplan."

Gauthier and Campos have history. Gauthier defeated Campos on points for the Title National Championship on July 2 in Holly Springs, MS in a 65-pound match. Gauthier also won a smoker in Houston over Campos approximately a year ago.

The younger Gauther recently added his third national championship when he won the 2009 National Junior Golden Gloves championship at the CasaBlanca Events Center in Mesquite, NV on July 25.

Competing in the 11-12 year-old, 60-pound open division, Gauthier dominated Boise, ID fighter Edgar Carrasco in winning a 5-0 decision.

Before winning the Title National Championship at Holly Springs, Gauthier also won the 65-pound division in the Comcast Ringside Title Championship at Augusta, GA, in late June.

All told, Gauthier, has won a total of five national championships. He fights out of Lafayette's Gauthier's Boxing Club. Gauthier has an overall amateur record of 64-18 with 16 KOs.

His sights are set on the upcoming National PAL and National Silver Gloves, the only two national tournaments he has yet to win.
