Lafayette, LA's Jessie Fletcher, won the 80-pound, 10-11-year-old age group at the Title National Championship Tournament in Ripley, TN on June 5. A decorated amateur boxer, Fletcher defeated Memphian Eugene Collins by RSC in the second round. Fletcher only started boxing in January of 2009, but has won four championships in his age group. At 5-foot-3, Kansas City, MO light middleweight Melisenda Perez is used to having to fight much taller opponents. Despite the height disadvantage, Perez has managed to be a force in her division. Gauthier Adds Another Championship Belt To Impressive Resume |

From Staff Reports MESQUITE, NV - It just keeps getting better and better for 11-year-old Lafayette, LA amateur boxer Jay "Solider Ant" Gauthier. Gauther added his third national championship in four weeks when he won the 2009 National Junior Golden Gloves championship at the CasaBlanca Events Center on July 25. Mesquite is located about an hour from the bright lights of Las Vegas. Competing in the 11-12 year-old, 60-pound open division, Gauthier dominated Boise, ID fighter Edgar Carrasco in winning a 5-0 decision. Fighting at 65 pounds at the Title National Championship on July 2 in Holly Springs, MS, Gauthier defeated Texas opponent Adam Campos on points in the championship bout.
Gauthier also won the 65-pound division in the Comcast Ringside Title Championship at Augusta, GA in late June. All told, Gauthier, has won a total of five national championships. He fights out of Lafayette's Gauthier's Boxing Club. As an encore, Gauthier leaves Sunday (Aug. 2) to the Ringside World Tournament in Kansas City, MO, where he will compete at 60 pounds. In previous action at the Ringside World Tournament, Gauthier came up just short with second and third place finishes. Gauthier has an overall amateur record of 63-18 with 16 KOs.
