|
From Ragin' Cajun Boxing GULFPORT, MS - Lafayette, LA's Ragin' Cajun Boxing Club's Chad Trahan (161 pounds) checked into the Bates Motel and checked out with a victory over Decorey "Psycho" Bates On Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Gulfport Boxing Club show. Bates, who was on a winning streak entering the bout, challenged Trahan to the fight. After two rounds, Trahan's speed, conditioning, power and technical skills took over in the third round. A southpaw, Trahan administered straight right jabs and hard, overhand lefts to medicate "Psycho, and breezed to victory. Eleven-year-old Riley Romero (114 pounds) had his amateur debut and won a unanimous decision over Brandon Rose, of LaRose (LA) Boxing Club. Romero used a terrific left jab and a very hard right hand to control the bout and take a 3-0 decision.
Chance Fontenot, a 15-year-old freshman at Breaux Bridge (LA) High School, won a unanimous decision in the 115-pound division over Pascagoula's Rudy Garcia. It was Garcia's first bout in the United States after an extensive amateur career in Puerto Rico. Fontenot was just too slick and busy for Garcia. In the 118-pound division, Cade Ducksworth, 14-year-old freshman in the gifted program at Lafayette (LA) High School, was magnificent in his bout with J.W. McCoy, of Baton Rouge. Ducksworth started fast and landed punches at will which resulted in blood streaming from McCoy's nose. The ringside physician ordered a halt to the bout. Smokey Guidry won his 165-pound bout by decision over Baton Rouge's Calvin Paul, but was disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct. The fighters wound up in a shouting and shoving match after the bout. Guidry failed to heed the referee's instruction and received the DQ. Ragin' Cajun boxers are competing on March 6 in Kenner, LA as they prepare for the 2010 Louisiana State Golden Gloves at N.P. Moss Middle School, March 26 to 28 in Lafayette. |
