MIAMI - Welterweight Brad Solomon is fast growing a reputation as a slick boxer who gives opponents fits.
For the second time in four fights, Solomon, who hails from Lafayette, LA, defeated a fighter who was previously unbeaten. He won a 10-round unanimous decision against highly-regarded puncher Kenny Galarza in Galarza's back yard at the Fuchs Pavilion. Galarza had won all of his previous 13 bouts by knockout.
With the victory, Solomon improved to 12-0, 4 KOs. The official scorecard reflected Solomon's dominance in the fight: 100-89 X 2 and 99-90.
Solomon said he simply confused and bewildered the hard-punching Galarza.
"I had a good time in there boxing. I out-boxed him," Solomon said. "I gave him a boxing clinic. It was a good fight for me. I like fighting people with good records and talking their undefeated records from them. I keep getting closer and closer to a title."
The fight was Solomon's second high-profile fight in his last four matches. He won a a majority 8-round decision over Philadelphia's Ray Robinson (11-1, 4 KOs) last December at the Grand Ballroom in New York City.
Solomon said his movement allowed him to say away from any Galarza knockout bombs.
"Once I got him figured out, I out-boxed him," Solomon said. "I came from all angles. He hit me low four or five times, but I think that was to try and slow me down. But I stayed in my game."
Solomon said a few of his own right punches did some damage.
"I hurt him with a few of my own right hands. He was frustrated. He had never been in the ring with somebody like me," Solomon said. "Every time he tried to land a hard shot, I kept him turning. when he started to throw, I gone. The fight was at my pace."
Solomon is not tied to any promoter. That means he has to be ready to fight at any time the phone rings.
"I train hard and I'm going to be a champion," Solomon said. "I have no promoter so I have to be ready at all times. My goal is to be a champion."
