Lafayette, LA's Jessie Fletcher, won the 80-pound, 10-11-year-old age group at the Title National Championship Tournament in Ripley, TN on June 5. A decorated amateur boxer, Fletcher defeated Memphian Eugene Collins by RSC in the second round. Fletcher only started boxing in January of 2009, but has won four championships in his age group. At 5-foot-3, Kansas City, MO light middleweight Melisenda Perez is used to having to fight much taller opponents. Despite the height disadvantage, Perez has managed to be a force in her division. Ragin' Cajun Boxing Club MONTAGUE, LA - Still celebrating his recent title from the Louisiana/Mississippi Junior Golden Gloves, Ragin' Cajun Boxing Club's Gavin Stowe was once again victorious July 18 on a card hosted by Extreme Boxing Club. A rising sixth grader at Maurice Elementary School in Lafayette, the 11-year-old Stowe defeated Frog Capital Boxing Club's Dandrakus Joseph by a 3-0 score in the 75-pound division. Stowe went on the offensive from the opening bell and immediately scored on two hard left jabs, and just missed on a strong straight right hand. Both fighters exchanged tough punches throughout the remainder of the first round.

By Winston Mount-Batten Ragin' Cajun Boxing Club WEST MONROE, LA - Eleven year-old Gavin Stowe is a rising sixth grader at Maurice Elementary School near Lafayette, LA, and very proud of the fact that he has never failed a grade.
After this past weekend, he has something else for which to be proud. On Saturday night (July 11), Gavin won the 75-pound Louisiana/Mississippi Junior Golden Gloves championship in the junior (11-12 year-old) division with a hard fought, unanimous decision over Mississippi's Bobby Weathers.

Louisiana-Mississippi Junior Golden Gloves Tournament Set To Kick Off |

From West Monroe Boxing Club
WEST MONROE, LA - The Louisiana/Mississippi Junior Golden Gloves is scheduled for Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11 at the West Monroe Sports Complex, located at 1802 N. 7th St.
Bouts begin at 6 p.m. on both days. The tournament is for boxers 8 to 16 years of age, however matches will be made for older boxers.
Admission is $10 for adults; $5 for students.
To get to the Sports Complex, take Mill St. exit off of I-20 and go to the first traffic light. Turn left (N. 7th St.) and go approximately three miles past the water tower. The Sports Complex will be on the right.

July 11 Card To Benefit 8 Slated For Mission To Dominican Republic |

Westside Boxing Club, of Chattanooga, TN, hosts a benefit boxing show on Saturday, July 11 at the National Guard Armory in S. Pittsburg, TN.
Proceeds from the event go to help defray costs for eight young boxers who are going on a mission trip to the Domincan Republic. The eight depart for the Dominican Republic on Saturday, July 18. The youngsters are scheduled to box in four cites while on the mission trip.
The benefit is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m./ET. Admission for adults is $7, and $5 for students. The show is free for children 6 and under.
