Lafayette, LA's Jessie Fletcher, won the 80-pound, 10-11-year-old age group at the Title National Championship Tournament in Ripley, TN on June 5. A decorated amateur boxer, Fletcher defeated Memphian Eugene Collins by RSC in the second round. Fletcher only started boxing in January of 2009, but has won four championships in his age group. At 5-foot-3, Kansas City, MO light middleweight Melisenda Perez is used to having to fight much taller opponents. Despite the height disadvantage, Perez has managed to be a force in her division. Perez won a 4-round unanimous decision over Batesville, AR's April Ward Saturday night (July 10) on Les Bonano's "Battle On The Bay" card at Hollywood Casino. Read more...

Ragin' Cajun Boxing Club Wins Team Trophy At Acadiana High |

From Connie Falcon LAFAYETTE, LA - Ragin' Cajun Boxing Club, of Lafayette, won five matches and won the team trophy from the Nov. 14 amateur show at Acadiana High School and hosted by Tony's Boxing Club. It was the Ragin' Cajun's second straight team trophy. Ragin' Cajun match winners included Wilbert Fuselier Jr. (201-plus pounds), John Moody (152), Greg Schuneman (240), Bishop Campbell (150) and Smokey Guidry (160). Carenco's Backstreet Boxing Club won four matches, while Tony's Boxing Club and Lafayette's Breaux Brothers Boxing Club both won three matches.

Ringside Fitness Boxing Club, of Alexandria, LA, had four boxers win their respective division while competing in the recent 2009 Louisiana Governor's Cup competition at Lafayette, LA. Stormy Willis won the 141-pound championship, while Antonio Valenzuela was the 95-pound champion. Skyler Williams captured the 75-pound title, while the super heavyweight (201-plus pounds) championship was won by Calvin Johnson. Volunteer coaches who attended the boxing event in Lafayette with their boxers included John Valenzuela and John J. Scott. Lafayette's Ragin' Cajun Boxing Club hosted the event. Some 38 clubs, some from as far away as Florida, attended the activities. |

Wilson Earns Most Outstanding On 'Kids Fight Against Hunger' Card |

From Pearl Boxing Club PEARL, MS - In just his second boxing match, Pearl Boxing Club's Steve Wilson earned Most Outstanding Boxer and helped his team win the Team Trophy on Saturday (Nov. 14) during the "Kids Fight Against Hunger" show at the Pearl Boxing Club gym. The 26-year-old Wilson won a unanimous decision over West Monroe (LA) Boxing Club's Chesney Griffin. Wilson won the 201-pound bout by unanimous decision. Wilson won every round en route to the victory. Pearl Boxing Club boxers won eight of the 10 bouts in which they competed. Results of the bouts are below. From Southern Boys Boxing FT. PIERCE, FL - Competing in the 132-pound division, Olive Branch, MS amateur standout Joey Bryant won his division on Saturday (Nov. 7) fighting in the Florida State PAL Championships. In the final, Bryant defeated Roberto Suarez. The action in the Florida State PAL Championships at the Ft. Pierce Gym were the first for Bryant since the Title Nationals competition in Holly Springs, MS some five months ago. Bryant appeared to have little rust from the layoff. However, he had to wait until the 27th bout to step into the ring. Bryant was in Florida for the past weekend with older brother and pro boxer, Bobby Bryant (2-0, 2 KOs), who is in training camp in South Florida in preparation for a December fight in Texas. The Florida State PAL Tournament was hosted by Ft. Pierce PAL. Over 300 boxers were entered in the competition, which was held in two rings. |
