Ganaway Passes Test Against Experienced Opponent
From Staff Reports
LITTLE ROCK - With more than 60 fights under his belt, Marty Robbins figured to be the stiffest test yet for up-and-coming Little Rock lightweight prospect Rashad "The One" Ganaway.
Ganaway improved to 10-1-1, 7 KOs as he boxed his way to an eight-round unanimous decision over Robbins in the main event of a May 30 card promoted by Tim Gibson's Unopposed Promotions at The Village.
"Marty is a game kid. Our gameplan was to move and box," said Ganaway trainer Kevin Lightburn. "Marty was trying to get into an inside fight with Rashad and get into the later rounds. I don't think Marty thought Rashad could move for the entire eight rounds."
BATON ROUGE, LA - Junior middleweight Darnell Boone didn't have the most intimidating record when it came time to step into the ring against Calvin Green.
Fighting in the 10-round main event on Bayou Promotions' May 29 card in The Atrium at the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino, Boone showed Green a thing or two about how career records are most often deceiving.
Boone, who hails from Atlanta, entered the fight with Green 15-10-2, 5 KOs. But most of those losses came against top-level competition. A Baytown, TX resident, Green came in with a glittering 20-3-1 record with 12 KOs against much lesser competition.
George Foreman III Debuts On 'Family Tradition' Card Saturday In Kinder, LA
From Aroundt Own Media Group, Inc.
HOUSTON - If the adage stating the apple doesn't fall far from the tree is indeed true, then young George Foreman III is in for a long and illustrious career as a professional boxer.
However, before securing a spot in the Boxing Hall of Fame, Foreman needs to accomplish a few things. The first goal is to get a win in his pro debut.
Foreman, who goes by his long-time nickname of "Monk," has his first fight on Saturday, June 6, at the Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder, LA. The four-round heavyweight bout is the special attraction on the 10-bout professional boxing card dubbed appropriately enough, "Family Tradition."

Light Heavyweights Take Center Stage On Cut Off, LA Card
From In Ya Face Fight Productions
CUT OFF, LA - In Ya Face Fight Productions, in association with Tad Gaspard Productions and Gulf Coast Boxing, present "Brawl on the Bayou," on Saturday, May 30 at the Cut Off Youth Center. This will be a night filled with professional boxing and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) action.
The night is headlined by a 10-round boxing event featuring former Louisiana State Light Heavyweight champion "Smilin'" Martin Verdin, of Dulac, taking on the dangerous "Gentleman" James Johnson, of Shreveport. This will be the third meeting between these two fighters. In the first meeting (August, 2005), Verdin edged out a six-round split decision in a bout that launched him on a six-fight winning streak that was highlighted by a Louisiana state championship.
In the second meeting (June, 2007), the NABC light heavyweight championship was on the line. Johnson won via a 10-round split decision. This third meeting should prove to be the best yet as a lot of trash-talking has been floating around between the camps.
The co-featured boxing bout showcases Louisiana State Light Heavyweight champion and Grand Bois native Justin "Ironman" Verdin. Verdin who is unbeaten in professional boxing and professional MMA, is scheduled to face Charles Hammac of Mobile, AL.
The boxing undercard features Golden Meadow native Tom "The Bomb" Dardar (5-1) in a four-round bout and Lafayette fighters Jarred "Lethal Weapon" LeBlanc (6-0) and "Mighty" Mason Menard (4-1), in separate six-round bouts.
The MMA main event pits two former teammates doing battle. Courtney "Wilderbeast" Pollard and Chase Cheramie, once partners in Galliano MMA franchise "Team Cobra," have split ways and will face each other in a "Bayou Grudge Match." This will be a bout in the super heavyweight division.
The MMA undercard is stacked with local bayou talent. Representing the Golden Meadow area are fighters such as Orend "T B-Do" Terrebonne, Randy "Savage" Cheramie, Casey "Wild Child" Guidry and Marty "Rip Tide" Guidry. Representing In Ya Face Fight Productions are top fighters such as Brian Billiot, Brennen Sevin, Blake Verdin and Lanny Dardar.
Last, but certainly not least, is a special female boxing exhibition. It showcases local Fallon Kirby taking on Rachel Godwin, of Pensacola, FL.
The 1998 Olympic Gold Medal winner and three-time world champion, Kennedy "The King" McKinney, and UFC veteran Din Thomas are scheduled to appear
VIP tables and Tickets (VIP and general admission) are on sale. They can be purchased in Golden Meadow at Original USA Labor (985-475-4758) or in Houma at Extreme Mixed Martial Arts (985-873-5722).
