Lafayette, LA's Jessie Fletcher, won the 80-pound, 10-11-year-old age group at the Title National Championship Tournament in Ripley, TN on June 5. A decorated amateur boxer, Fletcher defeated Memphian Eugene Collins by RSC in the second round. Fletcher only started boxing in January of 2009, but has won four championships in his age group. At 5-foot-3, Kansas City, MO light middleweight Melisenda Perez is used to having to fight much taller opponents. Despite the height disadvantage, Perez has managed to be a force in her division. In the featured fight of the night, undefeated heavyweight Joe "The Future" Hanks, from Newark, NJ, is back and he’s in with the "Bayou Banger", 22-2, 18 KO, Johnnie White, from St. Martinville, LA.
 
Over the past 12 months, White has been in with top contenders Dominick Guinn and Seth Mitchell, and is currently the 65th-ranked heavyweight in the USA. With his 18 knockouts, White will be Hank’s stiffest test so far.
 
Since Hanks first round KO of Baby Tyson Cliff Couser in April at the Marriott, Hanks has KO’d Marcus Dickerson and Anthony Gatt to improve his record to 13-0 with 9 knockouts. People in the fight business are starting to talk about a big future awaiting Hanks, and it starts with White.

MIAMI - Welterweight Brad Solomon is fast growing a reputation as a slick boxer who gives opponents fits.

For the second time in four fights, Solomon, who hails from Lafayette, LA, defeated a fighter who was previously unbeaten. He won a 10-round unanimous decision against highly-regarded puncher Kenny Galarza in Galarza's back yard at the Fuchs Pavilion. Galarza had won all of his previous 13 bouts by knockout.
