Lafayette, LA's Jessie Fletcher, won the 80-pound, 10-11-year-old age group at the Title National Championship Tournament in Ripley, TN on June 5. A decorated amateur boxer, Fletcher defeated Memphian Eugene Collins by RSC in the second round. Fletcher only started boxing in January of 2009, but has won four championships in his age group. At 5-foot-3, Kansas City, MO light middleweight Melisenda Perez is used to having to fight much taller opponents. Despite the height disadvantage, Perez has managed to be a force in her division. Perez won a 4-round unanimous decision over Batesville, AR's April Ward Saturday night (July 10) on Les Bonano's "Battle On The Bay" card at Hollywood Casino. Read more...

NASHVILLE, TN - Nashville has a new boxing promoter hoping to revive the sweet science in town.

Pinnacle Boxing Promotions' first show is scheduled for July 10 at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds Sports Arena, which has a capacity of approximately 2,200 fans. The July 10 program will feature 8 to 10 action-packed bouts. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the local non-profit Boxing Resource Center, owned by Dr. Christy Halbert. 

The card is headlined by Nashville resident Luis Galarza (15-2, 12 KOs) going up against rugged Covington, TN fighter Rodney Freeman (5-14, 3 KOs) in a welterweight clash.

Verdin Makes Quick Work Of Carter Via 2nd-Round TKO PDF Print E-mail

NEW ORLEANS - "Smiling" Martin Verdin recorded his first stoppage victory in four years Saturday night (June 19) when he battered former International Boxing Association (IBA) Light Heavyweight champion Dominick Carter into submission at 1:22 of the second round at the Sugar Mill.

The TKO victory put Verdin, from Dulac, LA, at 17-15-1, 10 KOs. The 44-year old Carter, who came back after 10 years out of the ring, fell to 30-10, 17 KOs. Before Verdin, The Metairie, LA-based Carter last fought on April 14, 2000 to Greg Wright in a losing bid for the NABF Light Heavyweight title.

Carter was knocked down twice in the first round against Verdin and went down again in the second. Referee Kenny Licata soon stopped the fight after the knockdown in the second round.

The 6-round fight was the main event on Relentless Promotions' card. Other bouts included Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fights.

FAIRFAX, VA - Nashvlle middleweight Jonathan Reid (34-12, 19 KOs), a former paricipant on "The Contender," and undefeated welterweight prospect Todd "White Lightning" Wilson (7-0, 1 KO), of Falls Church, VA have been added to the already action-packed July 10 "No Excuses" card lineup from the Patriot Center.

Opponents for both fighters are to be determined.

JOHNSTOWN, PA - Three Deep South boxers came out on the short end of unanimous decision losses Thursday night (June 10) at the Pasquerilla Center.
 
In the 8-round cruiserweight main event, Cary, NC's Julius Fogle lost on the scorecards by a wide margin (79-71, 78-71 and 79-70) against hometown favorite Andres Taylor.
