Lafayette, LA's Jessie Fletcher, won the 80-pound, 10-11-year-old age group at the Title National Championship Tournament in Ripley, TN on June 5. A decorated amateur boxer, Fletcher defeated Memphian Eugene Collins by RSC in the second round. Fletcher only started boxing in January of 2009, but has won four championships in his age group. At 5-foot-3, Kansas City, MO light middleweight Melisenda Perez is used to having to fight much taller opponents. Despite the height disadvantage, Perez has managed to be a force in her division. Perez won a 4-round unanimous decision over Batesville, AR's April Ward Saturday night (July 10) on Les Bonano's "Battle On The Bay" card at Hollywood Casino. Read more...

RIPLEY, TN - Ten-year-old Jessie "The Giant Killer" Fletcher, a rising 5th-grader at S.J. Montgomery Elementary School, took the 80-pound, 10-11-year-old age group Saturday night (June 5) in the Title National Boxing Tournament
Fletcher forced the referee to halt the bout in the second round after pinning opponent Memphian Eugene Collins, on the ropes and landing a flurry of unanswered punches, which had Collins wobbly.

Gauthier Wins Sixth Title National Championship |

RIPLEY, TN - Jay "Soldier Ant" Gautier, of Opelousas, LA, won his third Title National Tournament over the past weekend.
Fighting in the 75-pound class, Gauthier defeated Texan Christian Puga in the Saturday (June 5) finals by using his quickness in the ring to win a unanimous decision and win the tournament for the third consecutive year.
Gauthier had a first-round bye and observed Puga and Tennessee's Josh Smith battle it out in the semifinals. Puga won against Smith to set the stage for the championship bout with Puga.
Normally at 65 pounds, Gauthier had the opportunity to fight a his normal weight, or at 70 pounds, but he fought at 75 pounds and was reportedly one of the smallest boxers in the division.
For an encore, Gauthier is scheduled to box in the the PAL Nationals, June 10-13, in Oxnard, CA, Louisiana Governor's Games, June 25-27 in Sunset, LA, the National Junior Golden Gloves, July 21-24 in Mesquite, NV and the Ringside World Championships, Aug. 2-7, in Kansas City, MO. |

Means Wins Oustanding Boxer On 'Augusta Days' Card |

AUGUSTA, AR -Both Lauderdale County (TN) Boxing Club and Elite Boxing Club won four matches each during the May 29 "Augusta Days" card hosted by Augusta Boxing Club.
The Outstanding Boxer Award for the show went to Pine Bluff's Quincy Means. He won a points decision over Unattached boxer Zack Kilpatrick in the 128-pound division.
Augusta Boxing Club's John Henry Hurford captured the show's Sportsmanship Award despite losing his 60-pound bout by points to Osceola's Ja'Marlon Veasley.
