From Ragin' Cajun Boxing Club
ARABI, LA - Lafayette's Ragin' Cajun Boxing Club participated in a show hosted by Norman's Boxing Gym Saturday night (Oct. 18) and charmed the charmers, winning two out of three bouts.
In the 145-pound class, Pearl (MS) Boxing Club's Brian Nichols defeated Ragin' Cajun's Josh Joseph in a close decision. Nichols and Joseph battled on even terms, and at the conclusion of the bout, most thought a coin flip could determine the winners.
At 100 pounds, Ragin' Cajun's Hunter Marvin, a seventh-grader at Mermentau Middle, put the Cajuns on the winning track with an easy decision over Marius Hills, of New Orleans. Marvin put his jab and lateral movement to good use in out-boxing his opponent.
Ragin' Cajun's 165-pound boxer Chad Trahan gave Baton Rouge's Tommy Manning a textbook lesson in boxing. Trahan used his speed of hand and foot to frustrate Manning and clearly won every round for a unanimous decision.
The club is scheduled to box on the Oct. 25 show in Oak Grove, LA hosted by West Monroe Boxing Club.

PEARL, MS - Joshua Ashley has been boxing for less than seven months, but anyone who saw his match in Pearl on Saturday (June 28) realized the 16-year-old absorbs instruction like a sponge.
Representing McComb's A.B.C. Boxing Club, Ashley forced two standing-8 counts in the third round and went on to defeat Patrick Oliver on points. Oliver represented Paxton's Gym, of Shreveport, LA.
Hands of Stone Boxing Club, of Wilson, LA, won four matches on the day, while A.B.C. Boxing Club won three during Pearl Boxing Club's "Battle In The Park" during Pearl Day at Pearl City Park.
Ashley's right hand consistently found its target against Oliver in the Open division, 160-pound match. Ashley said he was simply following instruction.
"It was a tough one. I came out and jabbed. I kept throwing the right hand and he kept running into it. Coach (Andre Ashley) told me to keep throwing the jab and right hand. I just waited on it."
Joshua Ashley is a rising senior at McComb High School. He is 3-0 in his brief boxing career.
Rain after the seventh bout delayed the show for about an hour. One bout out of the 19 scheduled was a casualty to the rain as at least one participant left and went home.
